Mehndi Inspired Cake

I recently had the pleasure of working with a wonderful couple Sneha and Lee.  They we so great and pretty much new what color scheme they wanted when we sat down to do their consultation but that was about it.  I recently discovered a new technique that I have been dying to try out so it to them.  I think this one of all time favorite cakes.  The base fondant is white and we used a fuscia pink with gold accents on the decorations. I did a triple beaded border around the base of each layer with the gold highlights.  The decoration is a mehndi style pattern that was very flattering and complimentary to the room.  Their wedding was at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville, TN.  (Side note: if you haven't eaten at 1808 Grille you absolutely must go today! Incredible!)  Their planner is one of my favorite and one of the best in Nashville. Beginning Cake Decorating Class

Ok...WOW...Huge response to the beginning cake decorating class.  So much, I decied to set up a separate email account for everyone to respond to that is interested.  Please email me at classes@maplesweddingcakes.com.  I will follow up with all the details of the class.  Date, cost, time, materials, etc.  I'm so excited and completely surprised by the response.  We may have to split up into two classes!  I can't wait to hear from everyone.  I'm sorry for the new information.  I just thought this would be more efficient to collect everyone interested in one place! 

  This is me multitasking after being up for 3 days decorating cakes.  Cake decorating is so much fun!  Can you tell that I'm amused that they are snapping pictures of me!  LOL.  It's all good.  Can't wait to hear from you all!

Cake Decorating Classes/Featured Wedding Cake

I will be offering a beginning cake decorating class in July if anyone is interested in taking it.  Please email me at info@maplesweddingcakes.com to reserve your place.  Also, I will be hosting a lecture for the bride to be about how to order a wedding cake and our unique process in designing and selecting a wedding cake.  If there are any brides who are interested or you know of any brides, please contact me for that class as well.  Here is a another cake that we did recently for one of our wonderful brides.  This cake is very difficult from an engineering standpoint to create the offset illusion.  By the way, this cake was stacked at the shop and delivered to the venue as you see it in the photo.  We had lots of fun doing it.  This is the type of design and structure technique that you would learn in an advanced cake decorating class.  Fun times!  The cake was delivered to Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN.  We love getting the opportunity to work with them.  

Featured Wedding Cake of the week

You can't tell in this shot but the dark ribbon on this cake was eggplant (deep purple).  It was beautiful in the daylight.  When we carried it into the room and took a photo it looked blue.  For those of you who do cakes, you know how difficult it is to get a dark purple to stay and appear dark purple.  I still love the cake!  It was a pleasure working with the bride and groom desinging this cake.  The were awesome.  The wedding was coordinated by CJ Dickson of CJ's off the Square and Williamson County Weddings  and the reception took place at Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club

Martha Stewart Weddings 15th Anniversary

I recently had the distinct honor of being invited to collaborate with Martha Stewart Weddings to design a cake for their 15th Anniversary issue.  So, of course I said yes.  In September, I flew to New York and spent a day and a half working at Martha Stewart and it was an amazing experience as you can imagine.  My hostess was Britni Wood style expert for Martha Stewart Weddings and she was so delightful and helpful and made me feel so comfortable.  She and I worked pretty late getting ready for the photo shoot the next day so I didn't get to see much of the city.  We did however go to dinner at a restaurant in Central Park called The Boathouse.  It was wonderful and delicious.  After many hours of work and many revisions I am thrilled to unveil the final result.  You can find your copy of Martha Stewart Weddings in stores now.  My cake was one of seven cakes to be featured.  To say the least, I'm honored and flattered beyond belief to be asked to be a part of the magazine and to be along side some of the best cake designers in the business like Sylvia Weinstock, Mark Joseph, Wendy Kromer, and Kate Sullivan.  They are all amazing.

A beautiful cake presentation....

                                                                                     

I've said for years that presenting the cake correctly at the reception is just as important as designing and decorating the cake.  This cake is a very good example of this theory.  The cake itself is a very simple design although technically difficult to produce. The cake was covered in white, white chocolate fondant and wrapped in two different size fondant ribbons.  A simple beaded border is piped around the base of each layer. What really makes this cake even more beautiful is the way it was presented at the reception.  The event was held at The Country Music Hall of Fame.  Karen Kaforey of Signature Events Inc was the event coordinator and she did a beautiful job making Anna and Robs vision come to life.  A beautiful touch to the cake was this beautiful ring of mixed roses that was made by Ilex for Flowers.  It was simply beautiful and the perfect finishing touch to a simply beautiful cake.  

An Event Planner's Wedding Cake

It is always flattering when someone in the wedding industry asks you to be a part of their wedding.  I had the distinct pleasure of working with Kristin Carolan of Simply Stunning Events Nashville.  We designed a beautiful four tiered wedding cake with white chocolate fondant and buttercream frosting. Her cake was wrapped with an apple green fondant ribbon around each tier which gathered in the front and we used beautiful broaches to tie the look together.  We placed the cake on a custom made wooden cake plateau that complimented the earth tones in the lobby of the Country Music Hall of Fame where her reception was held.   Kristin is always a pleasure to work with professionally and personally and I was so honored to be a part of her weddigng.  Thanks Kristin!  We wish you much happiness. 

Traditional Elegant Cake

This cake turned out so beautiful.  We used a soft ivory white chocolate fondant for the base.  Then we piped these beautiful columns with a soft vine in each one with flowers.  We piped this very traditional and classic swag design around the top edge of each layer.  We decided to use a thicker swag on top and then a very fine thin string of frosting for the smaller swag undeath.  All the decorations was piped using royal icing and then each detail was hand painted with pearl luster dust to give it a beautiful pearl sheen to the detail.  We decided to use a scrolled monogram on the front of the top tier.  This is such an elegant and classic design.  I love it!

Cake inspired by brides invitation

This cake turned out soooo cute.  I love it!  This was the print used on the bride and groom's invitation.  We took the invitation and scanned the image and printed the image on edible sugar paper.  We then appliqued the print around the base of each layer and and piped a small white beaded border to finish the look.  I think it is lovely.  One of my favorites this season.  I hope you like it too.
